Crock-Pots
« on: October 11, 2018, 01:00:47 PM »
Our old crockpot has sadly departed to the happy hunting grounds.

Any recommendation for a replacement? One that doesn't overheat, is not a fire hazard and does not leach lead or other metals to the food.

I like the ones that you can flip the cover over and put things there to stay warm

Totally different cooking situation as you only get bottom heat. But seems to last longer, easier to clean, and more halachikly friendly.

halachikly friendly.

R moshe fienstein said its a non issue and here in the USA its widely accepted, it didn't take long and it reached Eretz Yisreol and they asked R' shlome zalmen Oirbach if it's permitted to use he said no its a shaila of hatmona, they told R' Shlomo zalmen that its widely accepted in the USA he said he wasn't aware of it and he didn't want to introduce something new that could have a shaila but since its used by many he wants to discuss it with a different ruv and not long after he had a stroke and passed away, that's why its a sticky situation in EY

dont forget in order to have a din hatmona it needs to be covered six sides Top bottom four sides, crock pot only has 5.

@ChaimMoskowitz should you have any questions dont hesitate to ask

I use a Crock-Pot style slow cooker. I line all the sides with tinfoil. The Jewish versions of the bottom heat ones are much simpler that you just slip that tray they give you and finished.

Lining with foil doesn't help if there's a hatmana problem. Only works for shehiya and chazara according to some opinions

For shehiya it is typically already 1/3-1/2 cooked.

Good summary. He wanted to discuss with R neworth . Legend in kol torah it's that he was in his way to the hospital to discuss and r Shlomo zalem was niftar before he got there.
Either way they told us to put a rock under the insert to raise it

a clump of rolles silver foil should do the job as well, no?

I have been told by some chabad rabbonim that one should do likewise, due to a מהדו"ב in שו"ע אדה"ז definition of hatmana
