The Amex Mercedes-Benz Plat has been discontinued. All former MP Plat card have been converted into regular Amex Platinums.

The Amex Mercedes-Benz Plat has all the same benefits as the Amex Plat.

Differences:
Annual fee is $495 $475 instead of $450
$100 Worthless gift certificate for in dealership overpriced tchotchkas from Mercedes-Benz
Link (You cannot use the Certificate online)
(Edit from ae123: Overpriced yes, but not worthless....watches, travel mugs, ice bags, caps, etc.)
You can get a $200 reimbursement for some airline spends, once every calender year.
Global Entry $100 Fee Credit - Global Entry is the US government’s expedited immigration program for frequent travelers. It costs $100 and is good for 5 years.

I just spent my cert at the MB dealer in Manhattan, what a waste if time! A bunch of overpriced bags, key chains, watches..whatever.

Worth a trip to Manhattan, or not even?

Just curious if they were suppose to charge me tax on the cert?

Imho its not gonna be worth the trip if u don't live there (or will be there anyways) the mb dealer I went to is literally a 2-3 min car ride from me so it was no big shlep but I don't think its worth it to go into manhatten specially for this

So I just need to go to the MB dealer when I'm going to Manhattan anyway...

Indeed IMHO.

Perhaps this one might be cheaper:
there is 1 in bklyn (bensonhurst) and in queens (long island city)

Unless it's near the Subways I use it won't do much for me.

Staples never Charges me tax on reward certificate redepmtions.
reward certs are actually coupons which lower the actual price paid and therefore the discounted amount isn't taxable.
The MB certs are vouchers and probably considered a method of payment and therefore taxable

If it's amex that's giving money to MB on your behalf, I suppose your right. If however MB is giving you $100 worth of their stuff because you have their card I believe it shouldn't be taxed.

Off topic but I can't think of anywhere to ask this.
When making the initial spend of 1K to get the signup bonus. Does the $200 that I spend on AA gift cards go towards that spend even though it gets credited back.
IOW, after I spend $200 on AA gift cards, do I need to spend only $800 more to get the bonus, or i still need to spend the $1000?

Thank in advance.

You typically have to spend another $200.

Its been reported otherwise in the "amex $200" thread.

YMMV. Some people got lucky and their $200 counted towards the $1k, but it shouldn't be relied on.
