In roughly the same boat and got the same response, though my 8 weeks from spend is coming next week... so lets see if they really issue the points (or they suddenly remember something about a "12 month rule"!)

Oh boy did I call that one!  Message today at my 8 week mark:

I have reviewed your account and I see that your Card is not eligible for 50,000 bonus reward points because you previously had Mercedes Benz Platinum Card ending in xxxxx.  The 50,000 bonus reward points offer is available only to new Mercedes Benz Platinum Cardmembers.

As per the terms and conditions of the offer, welcome bonus is not available to the applicants who have had this product within last 12 months.

I am sorry for the incorrect information provided in previous emails.

So Amex Mercedes Benz is pfficially only for 1st timers (of that year), I have a feeling this will hold true for all Amex cards, does anyone have a recent good experience churning starwood?

BTW, I believe you can'y have even had the card open within 12 mos. of new app, even if the 1st app was more than 12 mos. b4

I churned a starwood and delta no problem recently.  Perhaps it is MR based cards where they started clamping down, but who knows if the others may follow:..

I understand your concern regarding the first purchase bonus of 10,000 bonus Starpoints.

Please allow me to explain.

I'd like you to know that as per Starwood policies, this Welcome Bonus of 10,000 points is not available to applicants who have had this Card product within the last 12 months.

I've checked our records and I see that you did have a Starwood Card earlier which was cancelled on xx/xx/2011.

However, you do qualify for the remaining 20,000 bonus Starpoints when you spend $5,000 on the Card within the first 6 months (183 days) of Cardmembership.

I hope the above clarification is helpful.

I was also denied on the MB, but the guy wrote because I had the card in the last '90 days.'

However, I did receive 50k for the Business Platinum which I never had and applied for at the same time as the MB card.

yes. However I will hopefully have him pay the balances today but in the past they did it anyway

my friend applied a long time ago, he closed it in late 2011.
