Can we talk about how awful they are?

I'm going to Miami next week and plan on smuggling plastic straws into restaurants.

Beyond bad! All Seattle 7-11s use only paper straws. Try drinking a slurppee with these things.... after a minute the whole thing disintegrates!

There's a 7¢ bag tax here in Chicago, and one of the local Jewish owned stores, has a bunch of bags hanging outside with a sign that says they are free for the taking. I wonder if there's a creative way to do this with the straw stupidity too.

Straws make up 0.1% of plastic waste. It won't accomplish anything of note other than to annoy people and turn them off of going green in far more productive ways.

More productive and less annoying?

-Go buy an electric car if you're worried about the planet. Side benefit: Saves you money, saves you time, diverts money away from Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela.

-Go switch out every light in your house for an LED. Side benefit: Saves you money.

-Recycle.

For a car the initial investment is much higher and would be very rare to be paid off by using electricity instead of gas.
How time?
Third point is good though.

Re: LEDs. Israel is almost completely LED. You can get 20w LED (x4 equivalent) for $3.00
But I dislike the lighting it gives, to get LED lighting I can stand costs alot more (and they don't really sell it in Israel)

Between federal tax credits and gas savings, you should have a payback within the lifetime of the car. Plus there's less maintenance.

Amazon carries every color LED light.

Ridiculous. Aside from the fact that straws make up so little of the plastic pollution, the US produces far less plastic waste than most other countries. Most of these dumb ideas are just to appease peoples need for the sensation of helping out, without actually doing anything, and to help politicians make themselves look better.
