I guess the Q is, how can we maximize "hits" wih the minimum expenditure?

Dan, how do you compare this to Continental's mile-a-thon?

This is much easier to get the miles, although they are not as valuable as CO...

How can they be more valuable if you cam buy them almost all the time at 1.45 cents?
Unless you think CO is worth less then that?  :o

+1

Some consider them more valuable
How can they possibly be more valuable than CO?

These days with 100K mile credit cards there's an awful lot of work and hassle to get 100K miles from the Grand Slam promo.

But I boycott US promos anyway after they banned/froze numerous DDF members accounts for participating in the TIB promo.  They froze my account for a long time with no apologies until I wrote to the AZ AG and made a whole campaign of it.  And not even a single award ticket had ever been booked from my account :P

My guess is, being that Chaikel is US Gold, their miles are (at least sometimes) worth more to him then CO, hence the "'some' consider it more valuable".

Even as Gold I don't see why they would be more valuable.
-They charge a ticket processing fee up to $50.
-They charge $150 for date/routing changes that are free on CO.
-They don't allow any changes on *A tickets after travel starts.
-They don't have partners like Virgin Upper Class like CO does.
-They don't have one-way awards like CO does.
-They don't have an expedite workaround like CO does.
-They don't have 20K short-haul awards like CO does.
-Their agents are completely clueless and it takes hours to book some partner awards.

What have I missed?

Upgrades.
Apparently it's easier to be US gold then CO.

-  They charge baggage fees to mexico on award tickets and CO doesn't.

Pro:

- 5K discount on award tickets with their CC. You can get award tickets from coast to coast for as low as 20K (if there is availability)

Yup, but the discount is only if you fly US' ratty old planes :P

Another pro for CO: Upgrades on award tickets for elites with a CO/UA credit card.

There are no benefits I am aware of for being US gold with regards to award travel. I am just talking with regards to what I know ppl buy them at. Why do they buy them for more than US sells them? No clue, but that's the facts.

Now I understand your post on another thread. I guess US Air isn't that great.

How could they have a cheaper award than CO?  They both charge 120K.
