Went to Lamppost last night, food was very good especially the cowboy, however pricing is obscene, most I've ever spent at on a dinner for 2 without wine.

Looking at their menu online, it's pricy but not more expensive than most NYC restaurants.

Wow. I spent less at Barnea 3 months ago for a couple and a similar order.

+1

What bothers me is the salad. I would pay that if you skipped the salad and had 3 desserts. But to pay for a salad??

It’s not cheap, but it’s less expensive than Salt, Barnea, and other NYC restaurants. Sure if you order the most expensive items and add a bunch of apps it will add up, but the same would cost more in the other places.

Apps & salad were $40 each, Barnea has 1 app on the entire menu that high & their most expensive salad is $28.
Desserts were I believe $21 each, Barnea all desserts are $16
Sides were $21 usually $10-12

Salt doesn't have their pricing online but I've been there twice was not this expensive

Only NYC restaurant that expensive is Mike's & they include tip in the pricing

A steak salad for $40 is going to be more expensive than a $28 spring salad at Barnea. And there isn’t a single app at LP that costs more than $34, while Barnea literally has 10.

The $21 sides at LP are Brussels sprouts and mushroom risotto. Brussel sprouts cost $38 at Barnea, and Barnea’s risotto is $58 as a main. $21 for risotto even as a side isn’t expensive relatively.

Desserts start at $15 at LP. Your premium 30 day aged cowboy steak is also $13 cheaper at LP.

It seems you thought you were at a cheap place and ordered a ton of expensive items and expected it to cost much less.

Don't particularly need to refresh my memory I was there this week... LP's menu online is not updated they have more expensive apps, and just because a salad has duck jus  is not a reason to charge 40 bucks for it..
Not sure if you related to the owners or what but I'm going to stand by what I said, I go out consistently The last few months I've been to
Alenbi, Tabernacle, Salt, Meat, Street kitchen Miami, Bissaleh, Charq, wall st grill, this is the most expensive dinner I've had and while It was good I don't think it warrants the price

I also eat in nice restaurants, I guess we are on even ground. I’m not related and don’t know the owners of LP, by any chance is it owned by your in laws?

Back to the pricing - just look at the menu pricing and compare, doesn’t take a rocket scientist. I have a pic from a month ago and in fact online menu is updated with newer items, and the veal marrow soup is $3 more.

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion but not to your own facts (especially when talking negatively about another).

FWIW I was at Salt, Charq, WSG, Lamppost, and Tabernacle recently, and lowest to highest -  LP, Charq, Salt, WSG, Tabernacle. I pretty much order the same assortment everywhere, +- an appetizer. Salt, WSG, and Tabernacle were over 20% higher.

I haven't been as many places but I did not find LP to be significantly or outrageously expensive, and I thought the service and food were significantly better than other places I've recently been in the same or slightly higher price point
Don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers
