Some like to play the match the purchase to the card game. Also credit union cards are hidden gems.
i respect those who do but rest of my family would never have the patience to keep pulling out different cards in different stores. I need one card thatl work for everything

Then the ones posted above-Alliant, Discover It (first year) and BoA Premium if you’re a Plat Honors member. My husband usually carries 2-3 different cards in his wallet. Round stickies labeled with gas, grocery, etc made it easy for him until he learned. You can even color code categories. MSR Cards are placed vertically in the slot so he grabs it first.

Best to look them up, see if you’d be interested in them, and if you’re even eligible. BofA has become more strict with approvals.  Different issuers have different rules. There’s an art to CC applications. If you’re not familiar with the cards, then you’re probably new and don’t know about 5/24 either. Google Doctor of Credit for a wealth of info.

They make sense though.

3% for the first year, yeah.

But i'd only be making an extra .5% more in year 2 and so fourth plus i'd have to pay $59 annually.

I don't think I'd rack up enough cash back to come out positive where I'd pay off the $59 then make more on top of that.

If anything, I might break even.
You do realize, when it gets down to it,  any card with a half decent signup bonus will be easily worth more upfront than the cash back you’d get for a couple of years with even the best cash back earning regular card, assuming you’re spending that little annually

Open a Sapphire Reserve, sell the points, and then pay cash for 3 years. You’ll come out way ahead.

Amex blue cash preferred gives 6% on the first 6k of groceries, 3% for gas, 1% for everything else. Has a $95 annual fee so if you just use it for 6k in groceries you'll net about 4.5%.

How is that better than the Everyday Preferred (assuming you make 30 charges per month)?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

you can't redeem Amex mr points for straight Cash back at 1cent per point. They give .7 cents per point so 4 points per dollar is really 2.8 cents per dollar. Furthermore they don't give straight Cash back or even statement credit it goes based on your purchases for example if you have 1000 mr points and a $100 dollar statement they won't give you $7  off your statement ( .7 cents per point x1000 =$7)  only if you had a $7 purchase in that statement would you be able to redeem this 1000 points for that transaction. Even the amex Cash back cards ( blue cash...) Don't give cash back, only statement credits in increments of $25

With a Schwab account and card you can get more.
