I know you said "so far", but it's only like 90 mins into the real deal. Why giving up hope so easily?EDIT: Darn. Just ended. No iPhone 5, yet.
I told you so If Sprint releases a dual GSM/CDMA iPhone like this one, I wonder how they'll manage ESNs (MEIDs). Right now they only activate ESN/MEIDs that are in their database.
What do you mean? The same way they activate all world phones they offer... no?
Not the same. The world phones they offer also have a CDMA ESN/MEID which is unique to Sprint. Sprint doesn't activate non-Sprint-branded devices on their network, so this might be a first (at least in the past decade+) for them.
Im not sure what the issue is the. The new has two chipsets the CDMA one and GSM one(on 1 chip the iPhone 4 actually had the correct chip it just wasnt enabled). The CDMA one will have a ESN/MEID and the GSM one has an IMEI
Right, but will Sprint have a subset of iPhones which will activate on its network, or will all iPhones activate on Sprints network?Right now I can't activate a VZW iPhone (4) on Sprint, I'm asking if that'll change.
I'd assume all iPhone 4S ESNs will be in Sprint's systems.
"CDMA available only if iPhone 4S is sold and activated for use on a CDMA network." from http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.htmlSo I'm assuming they will have different sets of phones.
That would already be something new, it would mean I could activate my VZW iPhone 4S (once it launches with them) on Sprint (if I decide to leave VZW).
Again this all speculation but I can't imagine that Apple can/will allow this (VZW on sprint or vice versa). Provisoning/authentication methods are different and Apple probably wants it as simple as can be for customers
Assuming that they will do will have handsfree activation due to whole PC Free thing certain settings (i.e. A-Key which is currently only used by Verizon) can only be changed when modem is offline (thereby preventing handsfree). Handsfree is also done by connecting to carriers data network and downloading profile(Phone is authenticated using preprogrammed username usually ESN@sprint3g.net).
One other thing that hasn't been covered is battery life. With all these radios, and dual-CPU+GPU, this thing must be a power hog...
Did I miss the announcement of the iPhone 4 coming to Sprint as well??ref
