Best Bank/Credit Union for a Used Auto Loan
« on: November 04, 2018, 06:39:58 PM »
Anyone have any experience with used auto loans?
Buying a used car now (First time car buyer) have a great credit score with a great history.
I heard affinity credit union bethpage credit union and penfed (credit union) are the best.
Anyone have any experience with any of them?
I would love to know which would give me the best rate but I don't want 3 hard pulls for no reason.

Also, in general, do you get better rates if you put more money down?

TIA

Check out dcu. I was going to use penfed but the dealer said dcu might be easier to work with.

what exactly does that mean?
Their rates seem slightly higher than affinity(after their autopay discount) or bethpage.

i did deal with penfed and pnc in the past.
PNC - if you have excellent credit they might not ask at all for proof of income etc..
PENFED - sometime they will and sometime will not ask, but more chance for good/not as good credit to get approve .
and they are more flexible with years and the millage (on a used vehicle)

good luck.

I was told the smartest way to get a loan is to get the lowest monthly payments and then over pay monthly and you will be paying straight principal. Anybody hear of this before?

Also, should I take the longest period possible (ie 84 months)?

Any tips/suggestions/good banks for loans?

How would the math work on that?

Also, should I take the longest period possible (ie 84 months)?

Do you want to be still be paying off the car in 7 years? Will you still be driving it?

Any recent updates on who is the cheapest?

It seems like dcu might be a good option for me because they have a discount for efficient vehicles.
Does DCU have any early payment fees?
And to become a member you just have to open a checking account?
