Ipad or other tablet: What do you recommend?
« on: August 25, 2011, 08:12:51 PM »
Need some sort of portable device that has 3g and wifi (more importantly 3g). Anyone have any advice regarding good data plans and/or which device to purchase. Of course if youre familiar with some good deal or promotion, feel free to share too. I definitely dont mind doing research.

PS I have a laptop. Looking for something of the Ipad variety

Ah, the 3G requirement seriously limits your options (HP Touchpad $99 in B&H RIGHT NOW, as well as plenty of excellent sub-$200 android tabs).

The HTC Flyer is pretty excellent, as is the Galaxy Tab 10- but with options like the Moto Xoom almost the same price as an iPad, it begs to question why bother if you already like Apple's product.

If you just want an inexpensive 3G tablet to get your feet wet, the 7" Galaxy Tab is relatively cheap this days. However the hardware is aging on that already. If you don't need 3G, a world of opportunity opens up to you.

I personally love the Nook Color and ViewSonic G-Tablet, with my personal tab being the Viewsonic (Tegra 2 dual core for $250? Yes please!), and would even recommend the TouchPad if you can find one in stock.

B&H website shows the touchpad sold out. How do I get one from them?

device is 80 bucks after rebate for 2 year contract (I got sprint to give it to me for free), I also have an everything data plan so the service is reduced. Its 35 a month plus tax for unlimited 4g and 3gb of 3g on sprint. They also include some mb for roaming, dont recall amount offhand. Normally 45 without phone plan.
