Ridiculous how people jump on any statement to the extent that every comment about a shooting has to include a disclaimer....

I added the disclaimer to voice what I was thinking, but subconsciously, I was probably think along the same lines as you.

1. Gun was purchased legally
2. "Good guy with a gun" wasn't able to stop the shooter

I guess we should take away guns from cops too
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Not my point. My point is that this attack undercuts 2 main arguments:

1. Most guns used in crimes are bought illegally, so gun control won't prevent them
2. A good guy with a gun is safer than trying to regulate guns

In this case, neither one held up.

But it wasn't an assault rifle this time. Bottom line is there is no one solution. You can make an argument out of any incident, but bottom line is, no one solution will work for all cases.

There are common sense approaches mentioned many times that will help. There is no need for HCM's. This has been said for many years. If they had banned them that would have lessen this tragedy. If they kept the ban on assault rifles most likely the Pitt tragedy would have been lessen. Can you imagine how many would be dead if this guy used an AR-15?

You will not be able to stop all shootings but you can stop a lot of them. We won't be able to stop these shootings overnight but if we don't even try it will just continue.

There were people in this shooting that were in the Vegas shooting. What does it say about our society that mass shootings are so common that people were in 2 of them, and we will still do nothing?

I will give you a truck and I will take the AR. Lets see he walks away. Just make sure your funeral arrangements are made first.

I tried to guide the gun debate to the other thread but it didn't work.
Can a mod move the gun debate?

Please don't say that we do nothing. A lot has been done. Was it helpful? Some yes, some not so much. There is a fine line between solving a problem, and restricting rights, which is another major factor with guns.

Not disagreeing. There are many things that may or may not help, but we can't know until we try and fail/succeed. Sometimes a solution seems great, but once we implement it, we see that is a far cry from a solution. This man had military training, and used that training in his attack. Who knows what could've been, it's terrible regardless.

The point is banning HCM has no downside. No downside to banning assault weapons.
We have a tremendous mental health problem in this country. We need to open our eyes. We live in a country that has more guns than people. Put the two together and it is a recipe for disaster.

Agreed. Another key factor is finding ways to solve or at least help, the mental health problems we have, as a country. Start with our vets, and work down from there. In many of these shootings, mental illness is part, and sometimes most of the problem.
