Topic Wiki

Before you post, here are some quick notes about the ring (Updated August 2019), that have been discussed in this forum:

- More important that anything else - AYLOR before you buy as YMMV
- There are two types of Ring Doorbells - those that are battery powered (Doorbell/Doorbell 2/View Cam), and those that are hardwired (Pro/Pro Elite)
- Disabling the Wifi works to prevent recordings, and disabling motion zones won't alert you, but most people still think that ring will still be triggered on by motion
- There are many tools with modern Wi-fi routers - Circle, Google Wi-fi, etc that enable you to cut off your rings Wi-Fi on a schedule or manually
- If you have a hard-wired Ring, you can add a switch to the circuit to completely turn it off before Shabbos
- Some people have a manual switch, others have added a programmable relay.
- Other people cover the doorbell

Not here on the top right? Also in Motion Settings. Maybe you need to update app or maybe itís only on the Pro and you have a different version?
Can anyone give screenshot or directions for this main off button?
Go up to this post that I quoted. I had a screenshot there.

Does anyone have the Ring Alarm system and have a good way of disabling the contact sensors for Shabbos? Doesn't seem to be anyway to do so in the app so I'm thinking attaching some sort of magnets to make them think that that the doors/windows are closed may be the best option. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks to @APoshiterYid I secured the magnets to the wall via velcro so I pull them off before Shabbos. I only used velcro on the doors that we'd likely open on shabbos.

Looking into this more, it seems like the second generation contact sensors are much better for this, because you can just slide out the actual sensor before Shabbos without detaching it from the wall. https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039497552. If I'm reading this correctly, this is different than the first generation sensors where you'd have to physically detach it or take out the battery.

Better, but if it still requires manual work every shabbos itís not much different than the Velcro trick.

Yup, I wish there a way to avoid doing anything manually but it doesn't appear to be possible at this point.

I know someone who broke the LEDs on their sensors which solved their problem. But it wasnít a Ring system so no promising that it wonít break the sensor by doing that.
