General idea is a car doing surveillance was busted in Gaza. Hamas members ran after it and the Israeli's fired on them. And then it just escalated from there.

When Giuliani was term-limited in NYC, many would have loved to see him become Israeli PM. At this point, I'm sure many other nations would have loved to see Netanyahu as their leader. The funny thing is that in Israeli politics, no matter who you put against him, there's just no one that even scratches the surface, let alone come close to Netanyahu's abilities and intellect.
