United Status
« on: November 15, 2018, 11:45:07 AM »
My wife is currently Gold on United. The website says she needs to spend $375 more dollars in 2018 in order to hit Platinum for 2019. She needs to go somewhere in December and the flight is $350 (upgrading to high class would be $700+).  1) would United move her status up if she misses it by $15 or there is no bending this rule.. 2) i noticed on the site it says as Gold you get 7x flight price for points...Is this 7x included so really only need to spend like $60 on a flight inorder to hit the $375?   looking for advice
thanks

You can pay for E+ and that is counted for PQD.
The 7x is for miles, not PQD.

No, just extra legroom seat (Economy Plus).

How would she pay for E+ if she's gold?

7x is redeemable miles.
She'll need to spend $375. Note that if $350 is after taxes then not all of that will count.
I would not count on UA giving a grace for being close.

She can move out of the country if she can prove it and not be subject to PQD. Or spend $25K on a UA card. Or pay for the next higher fare class.

Add the FFN before the flight or wait till after the flight?

That wouldn't work @Dan?

No idea. Worth a shot I suppose.

Doesn't matter (assuming it works).

By using advanced booking options (on UA website), I believe you can request booking into a specific fare class. In that case, it shouldn't be hard to get something in between $350 and $700. If that doesn't work, you can contact a human TA and ask him to book her into a fare class that prices about $400.

Does an award flight count towards the minimum 4 segments needed?

Once we are on the topic:
My grandparents will end the year 3000 PQM's short of Plat. What would be the best/cheapest way to get the miles without mileage running?
I can make a dummy booking and buy extra miles and extra PQM's. In that case, I think it will cost $200-300. Does anyone have experience with buying PQM's? Do they post immediately? Is it worth the price?

it'll cost you more than that.
When you make the dummy booking an buy extra miles you have to make sure that you're buying PQM not just award miles don't remember off hand the cost but it was like 3/4x price of reg award miles

It does work though

Do the PQM's post immediately? I know the regular miles do. I am asking specifically about the PQM's.
