The DDMS post was a bit of a gimmick saying up to 12.5k. I don't think there was any real chance of more than 8k for Tesla.

There is no bill currently on the table for the tax credit.

It depends on what your options are. If the alternative is to stick with what you have, that can make more sense. If you have a lease ending soon and do a lot of driving, you can save at least a big chunk of the $8k over the next few months by not getting a new overpriced car, selling your current lease for a few $k profit, and saving on gas. This is all without the risk of being forced by Tesla to take delivery at a later date still without the EV tax credit.

Is there any sort of guidance yet on the credit? If it’ll be prorated? How much?
Also, would tesla fully cancel the reservation without giving me prior warning?

We’re contacting you regarding the Model 3 you ordered on September 15, 2021 to offer any assistance in bringing your car home. We’re excited to deliver your Model 3 at your earliest convenience and welcome you to the Tesla family.
Your order is set to cancel soon, but if you still intend to take delivery, please sign in to your Tesla Account and select “I’m Ready” by February 10, 2022.
If your order remains on hold on February 10, 2022, or is placed on hold again, we will assume that you no longer wish to purchase a vehicle. Your order will automatically be canceled and your order fee forfeited.
