Summary of changes Tesla announced on 28 Feb 2019

Autopilot is now $3,000 instead of $5,000 and it is now called just 'Autopilot' instead of 'Enhanced Autopilot'.

Cost to add FSD increased from $5k to $7k

Not entirely accurate. EAP, which used to be available for $5,000 pre-purchase, is no longer available. Instead, a pared back version called Auto Pilot with fewer features is available for $3,000. Some of the EAP features have been moved to FSD, which is available for $5,000 (requires Auto Pilot purchase).

While it wasn't included in the core announcement, customers who already have EAP will keep some of the features now part of the FSD package (Navigate on Autopilot, Advanced Summon and Parking Assist) and have the option to upgrade to FSD for $3,000.

This video is good at explaining the various groups that were created by the pricing shift (2018 buyers, 2019 buyers, EAP vs non-EAP, FSD) and costs to upgrade to each depending on your delivery date.

Note to self:
Purchase Model Y after its been out a year.
And don't forget to hold off on AP until they discounted later on.

Lesson learned.

100% agree. People who rushed to take advantage of the larger tax credit got fleeced in the end.

That's not what happened here at all.

And now prices and going back up and stores will stay open.

It's always amateur hour at Tesla.

If the pricing on EAP is instructive, people will rush to order their preferred model before March 18th and then on March 19th, the prices will drop further.

Not going to be surprised to see this company bankrupt in the not so long term.

Hard to say.
The product is light years ahead of everything else. And the service is light years behind.

Light years in this case equals 2 (or even less) years, IMHO.

I don't think others will catch up that quickly, but we'll see. The design, the speed, everything about the car itself makes driving anything else feel like ancient history.

There's no better $30K you can spend on a car right now than a model 3. By a very long shot.

For right now, yes. But, don't forget, the mega car producers have been developing and preparing competitors for about 5 years now. Their development process is a lot more disciplined than Tesla. While that has some cons compared to Tesla's more rapid development pace, there is a big upside to that orderly process. Much better reliability, and less over promising, and what you see is what you get.

All fine and dandy, but I still think they will be playing catch up for many years to come.
Tesla has as big of a lead right now as DJI has to other drone makers. It's not easy to close a gap like that.

As I write this I got a pop-up that there's new software for my Tesla.
A car that gets better each week. What a concept!

Now if only management wouldn't keep making unforced after unforced error in pricing and service they'd be all set to take over the world.

The app says my car has been upgraded from 2018.50.6 to 2019.5.15

So, what's new?
