Tesla told me at that time that they would be submitting for the rebate manually once CU updates their vehicle list and would apply it to me at the point of sale. Which they did.

Any info in how to obtain the $7,500 Federal credit. Do I have to wait for when I file 2023 taxes? Purchased in 2023

Yes. But regardless it’ll be on the 2023 filing even if based on 2022 agi.

Yes, but you can reduce your withholding throughout the year to offset.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Feel like we keep going in circles here...Reducing your withholding has nothing to do with your actual tax liability and your ability to take advantage of the credit. You can keep your withholdings the same and if you still have tax liability after all other credits, you will receive a refund for this credit. Your tax liability just cannot go into the negative because of this credit

He’s responding to only getting the credit in 2024.

Not that some ppl won’t qualify at all due to too high or low incomes.

Don't believe that made a difference to the point I'm making

Then I don’t get your point. Reducing withholding lets you take advantage of the credit quicker and you can earn interest on that money.

They keep on changing it. Originally was four times in 10 years. Now it's three times in 10 years.

It's impossible to know what the IRS will decide, but I think most likely is being completely ineligible for the tax credit.
Isn't $3750 of the credit contingent on battery sourcing and the other $3750 on final assembly in North America, which Tesla should satisfy?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

I agree. I think all models will qualify for $3750 after March.

M3 SR will not qualify for anything more.

Other models, depends on the rules that will be implemented.

No. The final assembly in NA is already in effect today. The future requirements are:

1. Critical battery minerals: To qualify for this $3,750 credit starting in March 2023, at least 40% of the critical minerals in the battery must have been either recycled in the U.S. or extracted or processed there (or in any country that has a free trade agreement with the U.S.). After that, the required percentage increases to 50% in 2024, 60% in 2025, 70% in 2026 and 80% in 2027.

2. Battery components: To qualify for the remaining $3,750 credit starting in March 2023, at least 50% of the EV's battery components must be manufactured or assembled in the U.S. (or in any country that has a free-trade agreement with the U.S.). After that, the percentage increases to 60% in 2024-2025, 70% in 2026, 80% in 2027, 90% in 2028 and 100% in 2029

@avromie7, thanks for the clarification! I know that Tesla gets most of their battery's critical minerals outside of countries with a free trade agreement with the US, but do they not manufacture/assemble the batteries in the US?
