Comparing options
« on: December 07, 2019, 08:58:28 PM »
New to using mileage and or/hybrid points.

1.  How does 22,000 flying blue points plus about $240, compare to about 35,000-37,000 hybrid points, no additional cost.

2.  Is there any reason to prefer to convert miles from Chase, Amex or Cap1?

Thanks

1.  What is the value of each point?
 a) https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=60515.0  for reference.
 b) I start with the simple math of 1 cpp (cent per point) to give a basic idea.
So 22K JetBlue = $220.  Plus the $240.  So that option cost you $460
vs 37K hybrid points - $370.

BUT What are JetBlue points really worth?
What value can YOU get for 37K bank points?
What value do you place on not shelling out any cash for your tickets?

Generally points can have a value greater than 1 cpp.  Chase points, when you have a Sapphire Reserve, can be used to buy 1.5 cents of travel on the Chase travel website. So 37K can buy a $555 ticket, which since Chase is buying it for cash, the ticket earns points.
