DDF Community...

I am considering getting the Peloton bike and wanted to know if anyone here owns one and what their experience has been like... good, bad or indifferent...

Thanks in advance...

I personally haven't tried it, but I have a few friends that have and they seem to be using it all the time.

Zwift is definitely cheaper at $15/mo. (a compatible trainer to attach to your bike can run about $1000 or so) by comparison (you'll also need an iPad or computer nearby):

- Zwift is more like a video game you control with your bike
- There is a lot of hardware flexibility - you can, for example, connect zwift to a large tv, or change the bike, trainer, tv, ipad/computer independent of one another

Peloton is more of an all-in-one solution - to make you feel like your interacting with a live class and real people. You're kind of locked in to the technology -i.e. if they upgrade the bike, are you going to spend another 2 grand on a new one?

Additionally if you are anyway a rider you’ll probably have a bike.

Any Peloton owners around here?

Got a Peloton a while back and curious if there are other riders out there?
Wish I had the cash to spare for a tread, right now I have the bike.

Anyone have a Peloton ? Are you happy with it ? Is it worth to get ?
  Would appreciate reviews.

How likely is it, that Peloton will put out a new model in the near future ? (Would this model feel old if that were to happen ?

A $15 Gemara will do it for me :)

It’s for my wife. I don’t like exercise machines.

I spent the money on Aviation Gin instead. I am much happier.

Big fan of the Peloton.  Ended up buying it 1.5 years ago.  The whole family uses it and really enjoys it.  Between cycling, running, yoga, meditation, stretching, walking, the Pelo ecosystem has something for everyone.  I personally use it 3-4x per week and get a great workout...  happy to answer any questions....

Am not sure if they plan on releasing a new Pelo bike but can't imagine that it will make that much of a difference.  I did hear, however, that they may be releasing a cheaper version of their treadmill but have not really looked into it...

There are always rumors about new products and the like, I've heard that there are a few things in the works from Peloton:
- Cheaper Treadmill
- An update to the bike
- A Rowing machine

I think they were smart to realize that the real money comes from subscriptions and not hardware.

They have also acquired a whole stable of competitors:
- Echelon - https://echelonfit.com/
- Soul Cycle / Equinox also have a bike of their own: https://soul-cycle.com/at-home (interestingly enough, the day they announced this, there was a campaign started to boycott SoulCycle and Equinox because their CEO was hosting a trump fundraiser)
- Mirror isn't a direct competitor but in the same space: https://www.mirror.co/

There are also a bunch of companies that make trainers to be used by Zwift that are also making bikes as well:
https://wattbike.com/
https://www.wahoofitness.com/devices/smart-bike/kickr-bike
(Apparently Zwift might be making its own bike as well).

And Zwift is apparently hiring people to build their own bike for their platform.

They've also recently gotten fans like ex-NBA star Reggie Miller - https://www.bicycling.com/culture/a32145059/reggie-miller-learns-how-to-zwift/ and Bo Jackson - https://www.velonews.com/news/bo-knows-zwift/

Corona has definitely intensified interest in these platforms, it'll be interesting to see where they all go.

i bought a peloton for my wife ( @Dan she requested it, not on my own accord ;D)
she felt the workouts were very intense and did not like them so i returned it. I'm too cheap to keep it only for myself

Are there any cheap knockoffs? And what’s the price range for them?

Echelon's bikes are cheaper, but also have a monthly membership of around $40/mo, and you need an iPad

If you buy from them you need a minimum subscription - if you just want the bike - likely need to buy used from someone who wants to sell their bike.

Check out ebay. Pretty good deals.  But you need to use a membership on the device. IIRC
