Tons of AA award availability suddenly disappears?
« on: November 21, 2018, 02:37:51 AM »
I was looking into booking a flight with avios from Philadelphia to Chicago on 11/29. BA showed AA had full availability for about 10 flights throughout the day. (At least 70 tickets)
I transferred the points from Chase and suddenly it shows that day as having no availability?!? No only that day but every other day too up till the 29th... While from 29th and on it shows once again full availability...
I logged in and tried multiple times again.
I logged into AA and there too it shows no saver availability...

My question is how does this make sense? And if it's something they did in the system, what's the chances the availability will open up again?

Thank you!

Dan reported this recently that AA pulls close in availability

You should be able to book it on the phone with BA. It just wouldn't show online.

Perhaps you were accidentally looking at the wrong dates before?

Thanks. My bad luck  :-\
I see Dan suggests possibly booking my destination as a stop on the ticket and then availability could be possible.
Any experience if this actually works? Would it be possible to take such a flight and disembark on the stopover without continuing? (Obviously only with hand luggage) .

I'm looking at United options also and they have availability but will charge the late close in fee. Does the old trick still work to get around it (by speaking over the phone)

Would you be so kind to fill me in which UA partners charge the same amount of miles as United so it makes sense to book through them and avoid the close in fee?
(I have Chase and starwoods points)
