Looking for a place to go on Vacation
« on: August 31, 2011, 03:18:08 PM »
I'm looking for a place to go on vacation with my husband (leaving the kids at home) for 5 days 4 nights. We want to go end of October or early November, and not over shabbos. I don't want to spend more than 400 on each ticket.
I don't really have a preference.
Somewhere nice of course, 1 or 2 kosher restaurants or grocery stores would be a plus.
I have 150,000 Chase points plus 30,000 Starwood points to spend.
Any ideas?

TIA

It really depends what kind of trip you are looking for and what kind of things you guys enjoy doing.

San Diego and Miami are always nice-
Vancouver BC
Victoria BC or Banff Alberta (no kosher restaurants) but both are beautiful destinations
Oxnard/LA California
National Parks (ex. Yellowstone)
or maybe just pick a new and exciting city you have never been to ( Chicago, Montreal, Seattle)

Ok to narrow down the choices - Beaches/waterfront is the base that I'm looking for.
Hawaii - aren't tickets very expensive? I live in NC, they seemed like they were at least $700 a person.

Chase points? From what card?

go to hawaii

4 nights in Hawaii would be kind of tight - seems more relaxing to go somewhere a bit closer and have more time

You could go to the Caribbean

It would be, but if you can't go for a shabbos it's definitely doable leaving Sunday morning, arriving Sunday afternoon and leaving Thursday night and arriving back Friday morning.

Those are called Ultimate Rewards points and assuming you mean the Sapphire Preferred card they can be transferred to Continental (40K coach/80K business on CO/UA/US/AC) or BA (35K coach/70K business on AA) to go to Hawaii for example.

if you cant go for shabbos, you cant either leave thursday night (assuming were talking about the halachic issues)

Not if the reason is not to be away from your kids on shabbos.

Anyway, Rabbi Aaron Dovid Gancz gives an incredibly erudite and geshmake shiur on the international dateline and I would encourage anyone to seek out when he will give it next.  Absolutely breathtaking IMHO.

I see you've edited your post after I quoted you, obviosly OP isn't talking halachic reasons when they weren't even thinking of Hawaii yet.

How about Nassau? or the Grand Cayman islands?

Head over to the carribean or the rockies. They are both beautiful / relaxing places, but at the same time very oppisite, ur best bet would probably be the carribean, as the rockies would be very cold at the time that u want to go.
