Buying gift cards from third party sites
« on: November 22, 2018, 11:33:20 PM »
I’d be more inclined to stock up on gift cards from 3rd party sites if I could apply the gift cards directly to my account balance with the store/company and not risk holding on to fraudulently spent cards after purchasing them. I know that raise.com guarantees for 1 year and that cardcash.com is for a shorter time... but it would remove the anxiety by immediately redeeming them on the store's website and then storing that value until I eventually purchase.

Which companies allow you to redeem a gift card but keep the full balance in your personal account? For example Amazon or Google Play allows you to redeem and hold the balance for future purchases. Do folks know any others? Or other ways to convert gift cards into other gift cards to avoid the original seller from spending the balance after purchase?

Target

Target cards are stored in the account but the original card can still be used in store as I found out the hard way just yesterday.

I bought a target gift card from a third party site in April and I only used about half of it. When I tried using it again yesterday the balance was zero. I looked at the transaction record and it showed two transactions in July in store, in a location I've never been to.

You can buy something in target and return it in store. You will be issued a new GC
