BA Miles --> Avios Points
« on: September 01, 2011, 10:49:56 AM »
Got an email this morning about this and it had a link to the website below.

Here is a link to the new BA point system being rolled out soon: http://www.britishairways.com/travel/executive-club-changes/public/en_us

If you click on where it says on the right "Avios points needed for some routes" you'll notice that LHR-TLV is being bumped up in mileage required to get to TLV.

EDIT: This BusinessTraveller article was posted on MP as well that outlines some of the other changes: http://www.businesstraveller.asia/news/exclusive-ba-exec-club,-iberia-plus-and-air-mil.

Just got an email as well. It said:

Quote
Dear,

We know how important the Executive Club is to our customers, and how much you want it to be a Club offering benefits that meet your changing needs and expectations.

We’re listening, and from November we will start a journey that will develop and improve all elements of the Club – particularly the ones you’ve told us are important to you.

We’ll be giving you more recognition and improving the service you receive when you travel with us. We are also changing the way we reward you, which I want to tell you about right now.

Introducing Avios points, the new name for BA Miles.
Our existing currency, BA Miles, has been at the heart of the Club for many years, so we would only change it for something that delivers more value to our members.

From November we'll be renaming BA Miles as Avios points, which will be the currency for all loyalty and reward programmes owned by British Airways’ parent company, International Airlines Group.

Avios points will be worth exactly the same amount as your BA Miles. So if you have 1,000 BA Miles today, you will have 1,000 Avios points. But this is more than just a name change. Avios will be easier to spend and, from next year, easier to earn.

You can find out more about Avios points on ba.com/theclub, where you'll also see some of the other ways in which the Executive Club is changing.

A new Club.
We want to create a Club that is better, more rewarding and more flexible for its members, although this will not happen overnight and we want to involve you in how we get there.

If you have any initial thoughts or comments, we would love to hear them at ba.com/theclub.

I will also be in touch over the coming weeks to tell you more about the other changes that are happening in November and why they’ll deliver a Club you’ll feel more part of than ever.

Warm regards,

James Hillier
Executive Club Manager

I wonder how this will effect fees.

LHR-JFK was reduced
LHR-TLV was raised, however availability was notoriously limited.

This will work out great for you, since JFK-LHR in biz is now only 80k.

I just home they don't kill the better Asian partner redemption options like Cathay and JAL.

They posted all the routes that will go up, seems like the only one that matters is TLV, but I'd never use Ba miles for TLV anyway so ho-hum.
As long as they don't start surcharging AA and LAN I don't really care.
HKG is said to go down, so that should bode well for CX redemptions.

And so it is...

Could JFK-HKG be going from 100k to 240k?  :o

What does this mean for using BA miles for AA domestic rewards?

Or maybe they'll stay with partner award chart, 100k to Asia via LHR...

Ye right...

It means you should use your miles soon because unless BA changes their mind all those miles are going down in value real soon.

Quote from: BA Executive Club

Just a note from me before the weekend really begins. The Executive Club is (and will continue to be) a global frequent flyer programme. I assure you the concerns from our valuable frequent flyers in North America have not gone unnoticed. As soon as we are able to, I will do my best to re-visit your concerns and open dialogue around this to try and provide the answers tailored to your point of view.

I realise this is perhaps not the answer that you are seeking at this point but I do not want your views to be unacknowledged

Warm regards

Nicci

Does that mean that they don't have answers to whatever it was that  you asked them?

Hopefully it means that the changes won't be as drastic as some bloggers are predicting.

Perhaps they are scrambling to change what they were going to do because of the uproar...
Or they are just pushing off the bad news...

If it really wasn't that bad, why not just say "don't worry, we are not totally destroying the award chart", instead of beating around the bush with "we hear your concerns"?

They probably are changing, perhaps even gutting, the partner chart, but I don't think they were ever planning to make all award pricing LHR-centric.
