Random Gold Status?

This is weird. I just had a HORRIBLE experience flying American Airlines from STL to ORD. Major delays, no air conditioning, etc.

They immediately sent an email in the morning apologizing and giving me 5k aa miles. I then sent an e-mail complaining and they responded with an additional 5k.

when i logged in to check if the miles posted, i noticed i was listed as gold status. which i'm not. or at least, i wasn't.

it still lists the number of miles and points i need to reach gold status, but it lists me at the top as gold. i even went to check reward tickets and all of the preferred seating (exit rows, etc.) were available to me.

is this a glitch? do you think they upgraded me as a courtesy? how long will it last?

this is awesome!

update: still gold status

but i was thinking, i just applied for the Citi Exec card and just to happened to receive it in the mail yesterday. do you think that had anything to do with the random gold status? has anyone else received that perk when getting their card?
