Time to quit Amazon (and Prime)?
« on: November 27, 2018, 12:19:23 AM »
https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/the-goods/2018/11/26/18112769/amazon-prime-cancel

Here's why I went looking for answers.
Today I asked Amazon if they can help me. I purchased an item 3 days ago and a nearly exact model was substantially cheaper with today's deal. I asked Amazon if they can work with me to match the deal, to which they replied "return the other item and purchase the new item". I suggested that it's not fair to the seller who now needs to refurbish the item at a loss greater than the difference in price... The chat agent was stone-cold "is there anything else you need from me?" and that's it.

We already know they don't care about sellers. We know they don't care about warehouse workers. What about the cities they inhabit? You think New York citizenry will possibly gain from this move? What about your spending patterns and behaviors, how have those changed in the last two years and how do you feel about that?

I know, I know... Recently you've been asked to give up Google, AirBNB, and now Amazon, what's next, SPG? C"V.

Try again. I got price matched from a recent order I made.
That doesn’t take away from what you started saying either way. Amazon prime is a waste of money for most people. Amazon is not a cheap store in general and it’s crazy to be charged for the privilege to shop there normally. (Spending $1800 on an order and not getting free two day shipping is not normal.) Same goes to Costco.....

Intuitively, the more you buy the more it should cost to get it delivered, no?

No. Not the way retail works.

Unless there is a deal or for some reason I need it sooner than usual, I first shop other websites before coming on Amazon. I look at how much they charge their sellers, and in turn see how much there sellers have to raise their prices...waste of money IMHO

I have saved a lot of money over the years with my amazon prime membership. The benefits far outweigh the cost, you just have to know when you find a good deal and not just buy blindly.

I sign up for prime on a monthly (student) basis. Maybe need prime twice a year for emergency purchase or for black friday or other deals. Otherwise I shop around and if Amazon is cheaper I usually can wait 3-4 days.
I'm not who you think I am.

There are some targeted deals throughout the year that are only for prime members.

Sames. My prime membership paid itself back many fold on just one day! Prime day! This past years prime day was one the greatest deal days of all time, and from price mistakes alone I've made my money back many times over. And to be honest there customer service imho is better than any other retailer. Disagree? Try calling Walmart or Target see how helpful they are compared to Amazon.

Of course it is. Make an order from global industrial, webstaurant etc. the shipping goes up the more you order. Free shipping because you order more doesn't make sense, it's only a perk to get you to order from them, which then everyone else on their level has to do to be competitive. But it's not logical.

I really appreciate a comment on an Amazon item FBA where I was going to buy something yesterday and that person noted that it's way cheaper on the seller's website. It was true and I bought it on the seller's website.

I had an account placed on hold, a few days ago, I had placed an order which after BF price drop + promos, it was  $200 cheaper then it's now. The order got canceled. Tried asking them to match price but the rep wasn't willing to give more then $50, and said thats the most they could do, and another rep will offer the same or none. Is HUCA an option? Is there any other way to approach this? TIA.

The chat agent was stone-cold "is there anything else you need from me?" and that's it.

I got the same response.
And there is no longer a customer survey after you end the chat.
In fact, there is no longer an "end chat" button.

Recently I've gotten really long apology emails for same-day orders that did not come in time, but no offer of any compensation, even when I explained that one of the reasons I pay for Prime is so that I can enjoy ordering things and getting them same day. Really annoying when you spend time putting together a $35 order just so that you can get one item right away and the whole order doesn't come in time.
