I emailed SPG to convey my dissapointment. Here is the first paragraph of their response:

Dear Mr. XXXXXXXX,

Thank you for your email to Corporate Customer Service. I’m glad to be able to assist you.

I do apologize that several hotels in Israel are terminating their relationship with Starwood Hotels and Resorts. The decision to leave the chain was theirs. I hope that we will be able to welcome other hotels to replace it into the Starwood chain, but at this time we do not have a hotel in Jerusalem where you can use your Starwood Preferred Guest points. I apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced as a result of this.A response from SPG

Obviously,spg is lying to us. It was clearly written in the article that spg was booting them.

starwood probably gave them a list of demands to maintain the standards of a starwood property and they probably opted to leave the program instead. all four of these hotels are owned by the same company.

I am contacting you to advise of a change in the status of the Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza Hotel. As of June 30th, the Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza Hotel will no longer be part of Starwood Hotels and Resorts WW and will no longer participate in the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) program. I see you are currently holding a reservation, confirmation number 537XXXXX on October 2, 2009 for 10 nights. I have been advised that the new management will not accept your Starpoints for a Preferred (free) Night Award as your stay was confirmed.

The existing management request that you contact the on-site reservations department by June 15th should you wish to convert your reservation to a paid rate. The hotel can be contacted on the following number: 972-2-6298666.

Please remember that you will not earn Starpoints for any normally eligible charges, and you will not be given your usual Starwood Preferred Guest amenities and benefits.

I'm sure the T&C's covers their behinds for lawsuits, but that doesnt mean you won't be able to get any compensation for a ruined trip via an EECB or the like.

It's one thing to buy airline tickets and THEN to go make your Award free reservations, and then have SPG kick out those hotels from their corporation. It's another thing altogether, when the only way you were able to afford a vacation to Israel is because you had PREVIOUSLY made your Free Award reservation, and only then did you allow yourself to book the tickets, and them SPG does this to us!!
And it's not like SPG didn't know in advance that this was going to happen, because it's not like these hotels broke away from spg, on the contrary, SPG booted them out, so thet shouldv'e given months notice, not one month!!
We all must call SPG to complain.

In my opinion, the more that people complain to Spg about what it's like to plan a entire trip around hotel award stays and then to have it blow up in your face, plus what they did in general, booting 4(5) Hotels at once in one country, the faster they may feel the urgency to solve the problem, and try to find new properties in Israel.

cant believe that no one has had a res at The Mamilla by now, was hoping to hear what the Studio was like

has anyone heard back yet on Succos? a friend told me that theres a good chance that rooms will be given to *W but with so many reses at The Plaza that most wont be able to get into Mamilla, and that most likely it will be doled out at 1 room per member max

has anyone gotten more then 1 room at Mamilla confirmed?

I've been waiting for years now for SPG to welcome more hotels in Jerusalem, but nothing is happening so far

And it serves us right, there is only so much abuse these hotels can take, take the SPG property at Ein Bokek Dead Sea for example (love this hotel), by some reports all its SPG award nights is being snatched up by some mental midget Israelis (whom I personally would love to punch in the face) for their own benefits

How long do you think they'll put up with this crap?!
