The "Don't Dos" of Credit Cards
« on: December 02, 2018, 06:44:04 PM »
Figured this thread would be a great resource for all, to compile a list of things spanning from super obvious, to not so obvious, that you might want to avoid doing with your credit cards. This would be the place to post your DPs as to what got you shut down, or the like.

I'll start with a simple one. Avoid large out of pattern purchases. Never a good idea to put a lot more than the usual spend on your card in a short span of time. this earned me a FR

What exactly do you mean by no Third Party payments?

My wife has a chase freedom card with a 27k credit line which she rarely uses. She added her sister as an authorized user (sister has no credit at all) and now she's (her sister) heavily using it (marrying off) for the past few months she'd go into the local chase bank on or before the due date and pay the statement balance with cash. Is that something that something chase could look at as a negative?

If so, what's the right way to go about it?

Safer not pay cash at chase bank, better deposit into a bank account then  pay the bill online just  to be safe, to many horror stories with in branch chase bank cash payments.

Or Barclays, truth is no bank likes it, but I guess some are worse than others.

I got an FR from them on a card I was doing that on... but it may have been because I was getting very close to the limit before paying it...

Another Do and Don't: When needing to call the credit card company example chase, Amex, Citi, Capital one for fraud etc, always call from the phone number that is registered under the credit card, other wise there will be series of questions and sometimes they would even ask to fax or email  ID with a utility bill.

Please post this on the Wiki.
