Reminds me how when I was newly wed, we went out to eat, and when we asked for the check the waitress told us some random guys paid for us.

That never happened to me (and never has since). I felt like such a celebrity. I left the place and then it hit me that I still shoulda left a tip. I still kinda regret it
if they were random, how did they know you were newlywed?

i think your better off giving 10-20 the first time and then they will treat you better the rest of the stay and then you tip 2-3 every time after

The owner knew (long story). He gave us a big, loud greeting when we walked in

If they covered your bill they probably tipped too.

Ya, but we still received good service. I think it's the proper gesture

maybe, but it always seems like several people..
so the first guy gets the $20, and then the next 3 days you still give $3 each time?

Was curious if anyone has experience hosting a catered meal - Bar Mitzvah, Shabbos Sheva Brachos, etc. Did you tip the waiters? Were the waiters paid a salary in addition to any potential tip? What % did you tip? Was the % based only on the food or did you include the waiters' salaries in the total cost before you calculated the tip?
Usually the caterer will charge you a set fee per waiter (the set fee is usually not what the waiter gets paid. The caterer takes a cut a lot of times). While there is no obligation to tip the waiters, most people usually tip each waiter ~$15-20. If you feel the waiters went above and beyond, you can always tip more to show your appreciation.

I feel very uncomfortable not to tip in a luxury hotel.
Love me or hate me. I still love you.
