i tip my barber $4 and i never have to tell him what i want anymore and he gives me the best haircut everytime i go
i tip bartenders usually a lot after the first drink so i get good service after thatand then progessively less as the night goes on
tip waiters like dan- 15% unless really good or bad
tip delivery ppl $1 a box from the supermarket

I tipped $5 on a delivery of chinese food to newark airport (delivery itself was free) and the guy practically started dancing with joy.

Standard tip in Israel is 12%...if they are Israeli w/ the service it drops to 10%...and if they are really really Israeli, there is Amex.

in thailand i tipped a taxi driver about .50 cents (15 baht) after a 40 min drive that costed approx. $7 (215 baht) on the meter, and he was so excited!
the best is, if u need to get somewhere quickly (granted there is no traffic, which is more than a disaster here) u give the guy 100 baht ($3.25) and he will go 160 kmh the whole way!

Yeah, I always wondered about this as well :-).
Why is it that higher end restaurants add the tip before you get a chance to decide? What if the service was lousy?
The consumer is always given the opportunity to ADD to their tip (on the receipt), but not to reduce it. Lol, obviously that's not going to happen, but at least I get to vent.

Such as?
I try to stay away from places like that as they usually have lousy service as the staff has no incentive to give good service.

many places especially when it's a party of 6 or more

I don't usually go places as a party of 6+.
The only places I can think of off the top of my head were Harbour Grill and China Bistro in MIA/FLL and the service at both was deplorable.

Wolf and Lamb and Tea for Two are 2 restaurants off the top of my head...
I am not actually condemning these restaurants for doing this (I understand why they do); it just bothers me a little bit.
On a similar note, it always drives me nuts when I make a return and I am told that the money will be in my account "in at least 10-12 business days". Why is it that they can take my money out of my account/cc immediately, but to give it back takes so long ;-)

Had the same stylist for over 25 years and never a bad haircut. Have always tipped her even though now she owns the business.

So, I've been getting the WSJ (for free) for a few months now, and a few weeks ago, there was a holiday card in it, with a return address. Today, there was another card, this time with the deliverers' address on the middle of the envelope, like a return envelope. (Yes, sir. I got the hint!)
