How much do you tip your flight attendant?

https://thepointsguy.com/news/airline-with-happy-hours-and-tips/
Was on a flight DTW-HNL in J and saw a few people tip the purser at the end of the flight.

H*ll no.

No. Not at all. Takeout/Pickup should be 0% tacked on or added. That's sort of the whole point of you picking it up.

Happened to me twice recently. Once at Gruit, where they made a whole scene as if they were doing me a favor by removing it. They also had a cr@ppy POS system (is POS a pun?) where they couldn't figure out how to remove the gratuity the system had automatically added to my tab.

Then it happened to me at the newly opened Izzy's fried chicken, it was $3 and I didn't want another scene, so I just paid it.

Glad to hear I'm not crazy. If you're going to charge me the same $$ for taking my food to go, where you don't have to serve me or have me take up a table, at very least have the decency of not forcing the "gratuity" on me.

@AsherO, tipping aside for a sec, how was Gruit?
In order to understand recursion, you first need to understand recursion.

NYTimes had a whole piece on tipping for counter service: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/15/travel/ipad-tipping-gratuity.html
Conventional wisdom seems to be that when presented with the option, most people will just opt to tip so restaurants add the option to save on labor costs by paying their staff less. Tipping for pickup/takeout seems ridiculous to me. What are you tipping for and who would the tip even go to?

A few weeks ago while in north Miami Beach i realized the restaurants add a suggested gratuity. no one cares and leaves it in the bill. while i did ask nicely to please remove it :) the waitres asked shockingly if the service was ok i just said i want my card charged correctly since its not mandatory it was removed.
Ps. DW wasn't happy but i didn't create a scene just asked nicely;)

Some restaurants add a standard tip (that is disclosed on first bill), then give you receipt that has another space for a tip and you don't realize you already have given a standard tip. Read carefully.

It's that time of year again! Trying to understand why I tip my sons year-round Rebbi roughly $75 annually (and in my area that is considered very nice) and the 2 month day camp rebbi gets almost $100!! At that rate; I should be tipping his year round rebbi some $500! Yeah; I know the answer- we are suckers and are, in reality, paying their salary, it is no "tip". Just venting  ; >:(

Most restaurants add a mandatory 18-20% "tip", so that was nice already! What is with these DW's, wimpy women?! Mine also won't let me give less than the camp "suggested tip", outrageous figures!

I said "almost". To be precise- it is $90 (bungalow colony day camp). Insane if you ask me. Where is it $40?? A camp? Where?
I believe in being grateful and expressing it (sometimes with a tip) but not paying anothers bills. why don't they just pass their electric bill onto me while we're at it?  :D

If the food/liquor bill at a wedding reception is 20k do you tip 15-20%?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

IME the caterer adds a section for gratuities which is predetermined. At least for me it wasn't broken down by food/liquor so I can't say if it was calculated as a percentage or flat rate.

What do people here do with UberEats? I think paying a percentage of an order to somebody whose labor isn't correlated to the value is absurd, so been giving $2 tips, but is event that necessary?

Many places gratuities are not added. When you start to get into large amounts it seems the thinking changes. Was wondering what everyone's thoughts were.

friends and i went rafting in CO last week and the private tour was 900$ split 7 ways. then the guide (who was amazing and fun) mentioned to remember ur guide and see him afterwards if we want .. we got the hint. we asked around and they said avg tipping is 20% of the total bill. now isnt that crazy? isnt the guy getting paid as it is and now also expects 180$ tip?? i think tipping is a nice token thank you but to get 180$ for an hr and half rafting is itself a great income, but as a tip is way over the top..
thoughts?
(we tipped 90$)
nothings impossible- the word itself says Im possible

I vary the tip based on the amount of effort expended especially how far they are going and the weather.
