So I assume it's better to get it from a GS, or would not make a diff if both are avail anyways?
if there is space available, there is no difference except that 1k will only clear into PZ while GS can clear into PN as well.
in general especially on domestic routes youll see a lot more PN than PZ
so if both PZ/PN are available id suggest using the 1k and saving the GS for when there is only PN
now when it comes to wait-listing GS is FAR better than 1k for a few reasons
the most important being, when a GS sponsors your upgrade and you are waitlised you get added to the top of the list right under any actual GS member regardless of your(pax) status and fare class
but if coming from a 1k account and have no status or even if you do have status but are in the lowest upgrade able fare class you'll end up and the bottom of the list
