Chatting on the same Network

i've been trying to find a free chat program that will let me send messages to other computers on the same network (in my house). would anyone know what would be the best program for this?

and specifically, im looking for a chat program that is compatible for MAC and Windows (7) - because the main computer i'd like to chat with is the mac and mine is windows?

Whats wrong with am internet chat like google talk/aim/yahoo messenger/msn

nothing is wrong with it, i actually like google chat ....but this way i thought it be easier if the person on the other end is not logged on to the internet chat, and the chat just pops up on to the desktop - cuz its thru the network.

i found 2 programs that work from windows to windows , i didnt like them too much, but im particularly looking for a program from Windows to MAC

lol. no, that question mark is supposed mean "does anybody know of any program that runs bet mac and windows since my computer is windows and the other is mac"
