Cheapest internet connection in Israel
« on: September 07, 2011, 08:25:35 AM »
I'm traveling to Israel next week, and I need to have there internet connection, does anyone have a recommendation where it should be the cheapest. All the rentals here charge like $7-$10 per day, and thats a potion, comparing to the $35 a month I'm paying here in the USA.

Don't know if you travel often, but I can get you the following plan:
100 shekel for the SIM (can be paid upfront or over 36mos @ ~2.9 per month)
25 NIS per month. NO CONTRACT
.29 per minute for the first minute of a phone call
.19 per minute after the first minute
.18 per text

Data
Blackberry unlimited data (optional) 75NIS per month
Iphone unlimited data (optional) 70 NIS per month

In addition new sign ups are eligible for the following "Extra Plan"
50 shekel upfront (cash only). No monthly payment.
Extra plan goes as follows: for every month in which the bill total is 100 NIS or more, you get a rebate of 25 NIS the first 6 months, and 45 after 6 months.
Data plan fee counts toward 100NIS for extra plan, so you only need to talk/text 25/30 NIS more to qualify for the rebate

Thanks for that offer.

But I'm actually looking for computer connection, not phone connection. the BB service works fine in Israel, I just need a portable USB etc to be able to work from there normally.

Last time I traveled to Israel I tethered. But it took me an hour to get one email sent out. I need something more solid.

This might be obvious but there are quite a few internet cafe's over there (mainly in town, decent one at the end of yaffo towards the old city) that have decent speeds & work stations. I'm pretty sure the government supply most of town with free wifi.

What carrier is this on? Is it a soldier plan or a regular one?

How much will just a blackberry cost me a month...Do I need to buy a phone from them or can I pick one up on Ebay? Will it work in the USA when I'm there?

Sounds like a great deal!

Not sure if BB alone is an option, I will try and find out.
Phone is not included, and there is no need to buy one.
If your phone covers US GSM bands as well, it will work. Of course there is international roaming. According to Cellcom's site it's as much as 14 NIS per minute, incoming texts are free, outgoing is 2.75 NIS.

There are international plan, but I don't think it's that much better

I have a kosher phone so I'd obviously need to buy a Blackberry. I just need the email/data. If it's an option, please PM me. What phones should I look for on Ebay? Even if it only works in Israel that isn't terrible...Thanks!

It needs to cover the 900/1800 GSM bands. Any quad-band phone will cover it. Also, "World" CDMA BBs cover those bands.

If you can get the USB adapter, I can get it for you for about 110NIS a month (no contract). Otherwise it's 15 NIS per month for 36 months I believe it's included in the 110, and you only pay if you cancel service.

It's 100 NIS per month for BB only service. Plus SIM charge (100 NIS upfront or 2.92 NIS x 36 months)

On your bb go to options -> Mobile Network If there is an option for Network Technology -> GSM, I think you should be good.

Personally I'm using the Sprint 9630 with no problems.
