You're quoting a common misconception. Children who are abused are
more likely than other people to become abusers, but it is not true that they will "usually" become abusers. In other words, most abused children do
not grow up to become abusers.
I'm not saying it's not bad enough, and if I had been there, I would probably have thrashed the father, but many people misunderstand what the research regarding abuse shows.
