Topic Wiki

To start off, if a woman is pregnant with first child, only she is eligible. If you already have a kid the whole family including husband can get it. If you aren't pregnant and don't have kids NJ doesn't care about you unfortunately. - This will change in October 2013 when they will begin accepting adults even without children....

Check out the income chart. If you're in the blue, your whole family is eligible. If you're in the red, only your kids get it and you may have to pay a little.

Fill out an application and send it in to your counties office (find yours here,) along with copies of birth cert., drivers licenses, recent paystubs, letter saying you are a student, proof of address, proof of income and whatever else you can think of. Most people go with United Healthcare but find out if the doctors that you want to use for some reason don't take it but take a different HMO then select that one on the application. There is a big backlog so it may take a few months to get on. Once you're on they mail you a renewal form once a year. There is a way to apply online. Only do that if you already have a kid. If you are pregnant with your first, you have to apply to the county by mailing it to your county office.

If you need additional help, contact LRRC in Lakewood 732-942-9292

Can you share with us the proper documents that are needed?
Also I cannot get in touch with LRRC as I wait on hold forever and the call automatically hangs up after 24 minutes.
Any ideas?

I went into the LRRC office...

There is the appication first and foremost...

Then you need:
1) A letter from her OB/GYN stating: she is confirmed pregnant, the date of her last period, and it must be an original (signed in non black)
2) Letter from her old insurance stating it was discontinued
3) proof of income (if being supported: Must have an original (signed in non black) letter from supporter stating: the amount per month, and it MUST state a date of when the support will end)

etc.

PM me for the rest... I don't have time to finish typing now...
My office buzzes to the JewishMusicStream!!!

Well, the current system makes no sense for me.
Contrary to what others posted singles are eligible for Medicaid, however the income cap is seriously low, like to the tune of 2.5k a year. Still unfair though.

Are you saying that their website is wrong because you know someone who has gotten it?

Technically they are eligible, they wont process the application though.
If a single was admitted to a hospital for a serious condition they would be able to possibly get on if they meet the income threshold.

I dont understand something, I had a renewal notice, I mailed in all the papers, got a letter from worker that im approved for "NJ family care Medicaid programs" but I should fill out a new app for Jersey Care and send it in "because its time for your renewal"?
Can someone explain or is my worker just insane?

Thanks I listened to it. They are pretty good when you are not trying to speak to anyone! I just have a copy of the Birth certificate and nothing else with me so I will just fax it in.
