Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:
  • Skywalk
  • Bearizona Wildlife Park - Williams, AZ

Meat yes. Matzoh - they have some, but most people here do a group
order from Lakewood. If you message me as it gets closer I can give you the info on how to be included in the order.

but they do have some shmura matzah at the stores?
anything else people ship or bring instead of buying it locally for Pesach?

Yes, they do have some at the stores. The heimishe brands sell out quickly. Costco and the supermarkets have the “Holy Land Shmura” (blue box) that is usually in stock till Yom Tov.

As for anything else - people usually order snacks from LA or NY. They do have at the stores, it just sells out quickly. This year people imported Coke lol since the stores didn’t have it. :(

The only Sefardi shuls here are Bucharian. There are some sefardim at the other shuls though.
The main frum area in Phoenix, which has a Bucharian shul and a few Ashkenazi shuls, is near the intersection of 7th St and Glendale.

There is another Bucharian shul near the intersection of 15th Ave and Grovers Ave. This is primarily a Bucharian area.

Ahavas Torah in Scottsdale does have some Israeli families but it’s an Ashkenazi shul.

the scottsdale area seems to have better prices for Pesach on airbnb and vrbo
which shuls (I see there a mutiple shuls) in Scottsdale will have full time minyanim on Pesach and which shul have a more sephardi crowd or maybe even a minyan?

Hi, ok, I asked my friend who goes to Beth Tefillah (I go to Ahavas Torah) and she just got back to me. It’s definitely Beth Tefillah for more Sephardim. They should have regular minyanim over Yom Tov. That area is also right near a Chabad.

I don’t know. Curious as to what they say if you ask! Local and visiting rabbeim as well as the chassidishe kehilla in casa grande eat at some of the local establishments. (As mentioned earlier in the thread there are some non CY under the same hashgacha.)

New bakery and breakfast place in Phoenix! Opening Sunday.

Went here today, amazing food. Super nice lady/owner. She gave me everything on the house as her worker wasn’t in to work the register. Highly recommended

They don’t have a set menu as they bake different things each day. They are on Instagram with some examples. They usually have different types of pastries, bagels, and toppings, with many additions to that that vary each day.

Six hours to kill in Phoenix. What's the nicest spot to see? Getting to Sedona in such a short timeframe isn't feasible. What's the nicest spot closer to PHX? No long hikes. Just want the prize.

If you drive east on Shea Boulevard toward Fountain Hills, there’s a gorgeous overlook that you can pull over at on the right side of the road. Where it’s 115 ish I’d try to stay near the car.

It’s REALLY hot. Like during the middle of the day it’s really too hot for even the pool. Most people here tend to go swimming in the early evening hours. We get a lot of visitors for the next few weeks, but it really is uncomfortably and dangerously hot.

In the Phoenix it seems that eateries are either under the vad or chabad.

When they say chabad, what do they mean? Is there any specific in charge?

Also, what national chain would have the best kosher aisle? Fry's? What location?

I am traveling with my children to Arizona and would love some helpful ideas.

#1 - Should we be at the grand canyon for sunset or sunrise? Also, any chance will be a minyan there for my husband?

#2 - I am traveling with school age children to Sedona, any good hikes that they will enjoy?

#3 - We were trying to rent pontoon for around two hours, all these places do min. of 4hrs. Any pay by the hour place or two hours? Also, anyone knows of a "cool" place to go boating?

Thank you

Kashrus can definitely be confusing here. A lot of places have a double supervision, like they are under Chabad but also Rabbi ____ says it’s ok. This would be a good list to go by. This is Rabbi Shoshan’s recommended list. To answer your question directly, the Chabad is Rabbi Levertov.

https://www.ahavastorah.org/restaurants.html

It’s on the link but Fry’s at Tatum & Shea has the best kosher section. Imperial Market in Phoenix is the kosher store but is not a supermarket - no fruits, fresh vegetables, paper goods etc.
