my neighbor told me he had the same issue and it was the fan motor, so its 1 of the 2, fan motor or control board
It is one of many things.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Can you walk him through a forced defrost?

Not until i get home and can do it on my own fridge. I vaguely remember it was one of the diagnostic tests and the spec sheet will say which one.

coolant leak would cause the freezer to have issues as well

A slow leak causes a slow breakdown... over time the failure increases

Would you have another frig/freezer to put everything in and let this one sit overnight unplugged?

what model do you have?
I have wrf535swhz00
how would I check if its the fan motor? where is it?

first it was freezing everything up, then it went to the other extreme
I have a side by side Frigidaire. Totally different model. But since the freezer is freezing and fridge isn’t cooling it might be the same issue. By mine the freezer kept working since the temp in the fridge was never reached. Freezer got to -29
My way if diagnosing if it’s a similar problem to what I had is to leave the part where the fan is located open (it should be in the fridge near the freezer) and see if the fridge gets cold/too cold

its part of my routine before  go to sleep i check if all doors are locked and if all fridge and freezers are closed properly
If it built up over the day then that may not be enough

What fridge model? High end fridges have a programming mode you can enter and one of the options is manual defrost. The tech sheet will tell you what option number (test). You can find the tech sheet under the door hinge that doesn't have a wire- unscrew the cap thats on the hinge

You can also test if defrost is working by measuring ohms resistance on the defrost heater wires
i found the tech sheet
the programming code is on the SN label which 12 I have no clue what it does
then there is defrost mode, which I don't know how to verify that it is actually defrosting, so I unplugged it for the night
and there are the test modes I guess i'll try that tomorrow

If you choose to replace the control board: I have  a friend that sells genuine new control boards both on his own website and ebay
He says knockoffs are just as good usually, and he's just lucky the people like to buy genuine parts :) for himself he'll save the money and buy knockoffs when he doesn't carry it.

I removed the back of the freezer to clean the coils the pan was empty, now a few hours unplugged its quit full, so i believe the defroster isn't working properly (which explains why the fridge should freeze up and then not be cool at all) the question is why

I removed the inside panel in the freezer, the entire coil loop that the defrost sensor is on, is covered with a block of ice, what now

That is not the defrost issue. I would bet money that is a coolant leak.

If it was defrost you'd see ice on the coils. What you're seeing is ice on the pressured line. That means the compressor is working too hard, i.e. not enough refrigerant

I had a similar thought because there's no heating element there, but I didn't come to a conclusion about coolant leak, why can't it be a broken fan that causes the issue?
