Any Experience with a Juicer
« on: March 19, 2013, 11:04:28 PM »
1) Anybody have any experiences with a juicer? I still use the old fashion hand/electric orange squeezer things to make 2 cases of orange juice for pessach, are they easy and practical?

2) If yes to the above any recommendations on a good one?

Yes.
The Breville JE98XL is excellent and will blow your mind if you've only used the old fashioned juicer before. It's great for vegetable juicing as well.

Actually did a bit more research and the number one rule is ..."You cannot put oranges with peels in a juicer"  (to go and peel 2 cases of oranges is allot more work then a standard squeeze machine) so there fore the answer to my question about a juicer should've been "no". If its your affiliate, now im understanding why your answer was not good advice.....

I absolutely stand by my recommendation of the Breville. I own it myself and have been very happy with it. And you can juice oranges with the peel on. The reason why most people recommend against it is because of pesticide concerns, which is a big issue in the juicing community. If you are really worried about the peel, you can peel your oranges very quickly with a sharp knife and throw them into the juicer. It will still be much faster than the old juicer you are used to.
You asked if anyone had experience with a juicer. I do. I've researched them thoroughly, I juice frequently and I own the one I recommended to you. I did not know affiliate links were not allowed here so I figured I'd put mine in. That had no bearing on my recommendation.

I got a juicer once. two points:
A, they are a royal pain to clean
B, Vegetable juice tastes even worse than it sounds.

Which one did you get?
You can usually put most parts in the dishwasher.
And if you juice only veggies it will taste horrible. Try adding apples, lemons, ginger...
Fresh juice is also super healthy for you.

Yes, they are a pain to clean, but if the juice is important enough for you, it's worth it. The number one rule for cleaning juicers is to clean it right away, while the waste is still wet. I make a point to clean the juicer before I drink the juice.

As far as vegetable juice goes, I love carrot - celery juice. It's a tasty juice and very healthy. It's liquid nutrition. Granted it's sweet, and I have yet to develop a taste for other vegetable juices.

My juicer's T&C explained that citrus peel have oils in them that will ruin juicer, just sayin.
