Topic Wiki

This is the thread for all random/general questions about Southwest. The official airline code for Southwest is WN as SW was taken by Air Namibia, but many people on the forums refer to Southwest as SW since no one talks about Air Namibia ever.

For questions about any of the SW CC's, see here.
For questions about the SW Companion Pass, see here.
For questions about auto-checkin to SW flights, see here. (Follow the wiki to learn how to set it up.)

From the Southwest website:
Traveling with an infant on an international flight:
One child over 14 days old and under two (2) years of age, not occupying a seat, may be carried free of charge when traveling with an adult (12 years of age or older).
If you plan to travel with an infant as a lap child, you will be required to pay the taxes and fees that apply to the international portion of the infant’s itinerary.
The taxes and fees must be paid prior to travel at the Southwest Airlines Ticket Counter or by calling 1-800-I-FLY-SWA (1-800-435-9792).
Tried HUCA and went round and round with Amex Travel. Seems there system only option has in lap for infant. I just made the infant a 2-year-old. Will have to check in at the counter because of the mis-matched DOB.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Depends on the price difference it may work out. Buy the cheapest fare then change it to the fare you want?
I guess the risk is it being sold out.

Same risk that any elite takes with a SDC. I personally would probably not want to do it if I really cared about the timings.

When cancelling an anytime fare and taking a credit, it can be used for anyone?
In your account does it show different so you which one can be used for anyone and which one for only you?

It seems like Southwest has increased the fare difference between Wanna Get Away and Anytime Fares from $30.00 to $60.00 this week.
This is a big hit.
Anytime Fares was the best value in the sky.

ETA: Seems like they are matching other carriers refundable fares.

By mistake booked a flight with cash instead of points, realized a week after booking.

Is there a way to cancel and switch?

Make sure the price is the same.
You can refund, get a credit for a later time, then turn the credit into a flexible voucher.
Then go ahead and book with points.

You mean book a wanna getaway plus fare with the voucher?

If I want a refund if I double book will they cancel both?

I’m having issues searching for flights on the Southwest website and app. Is it just me, or is it down?

Just boarded a Southwest flight and counted 28 pre boarders on this flight. To me, this seems like the biggest flaw in the Southwest boarding system. If they are going to monetize early check-in, and a-list boarding, they are delivering a poor result, when you board at A31 and 60 or so people are already onboard.

7 of the 28 were wheelchair passengers. They announced anyone who can walk without assistance from the wheelchair to the plane can board first. Each one sprang up within a few seconds. But the other 20+, are there any measures in place to ensure someone has a valid reason to pre-board?

Unfortunately, aside from their seasonal disasters, this is the biggest complaint I’ve been seeing from everyone online. They’ve monetized early boarding too much, and made it too accessible. It’s also fairly easy to get A-List status compared to other airlines. True - you’ll tell me that the status has less to offer, but look at what’s happening. They’ve cheapened pre boarding.

Right, but on Southwest early boarding is more important than any other airline, with their school bus seating.
