Booking US Domestic Qantas flights

Can I book the JFK to lax flight on qantas using BA miles or any other way?

US DOT prohibits foreign carriers to transport pax solely within the US.

Even if you book it u will be denied boarding unless continuing out of the country on QF flights.

How about if you booked a separate refundable ticket first and then call them to link JFK-LAX as a separate but linked ticket

...so cancelling the refundable part before you fly would screw you up.

QF requires onward travel on QF metal, albeit not required by law. Used to be a mess with AA agents ticketing it & QF denying boarding, but then AA stopped ticketing it.

Wont help. QF is not allowed to sell a domestic USA flight, even if you're continuing later. Both segments will have to be sold together, and you won't be able to refund it after departure.

This is a problem people have grappled with, the US domestic serve sucks, and many people pay $4000+ RT to fly this garbage. Unfortunately it cannot be done.
