from online research it seems to be meh especially compared to acatenango

I did Acatenango (it was QUITE difficult, especially the camping overnight). Looking to possibly go back and do something much easier

so ive read in your trip report and others. but at least the end result is worth it. id like to do something not as challenging yet still rewarding relative to the effort

regarding lake atitlan is there any difference between all these little towns if all i wanna do is relax? maybe tour a little?

not really. I found them to be almost the same. Some are more party spots than others, and if you want Kosher food you need San Pedro.

changed itin from thurs- tues to sunday- thursday. would it be a waste to just park myself in lake atitlan? is it time better spent elsewhere? i generally dont like moving around too much

absolutely.  airport is closer to antigua regardless. so start or end for two days in antigua.

anything to do there besides hike? i see it tops every guatemala guide, but as we wont be doing the hikes or the churches, is it still interesting?

Antigua is UNESCO site it's just very quaint and nice to walk around, coffee is big and there many cute little coffee shops beside one of the coolest starbucks anywhere. Theres a micro brewery, Jade Museum where you can see them cutting stone, an authentic marketplace where you can find cool produce and a nearby indoor art market where you can bargain for homemade artwork and knitwear. Cerro de la cruz is a nice lookout to see the city and the 3 volcanoes Volcan de Agua, Fuego, & Acatanego. See Trip reports for more inspiration.
