QNAP NAS - And NAS Vs. Full Server
« on: May 24, 2016, 02:04:25 PM »
Anyone here familiar with QNAP's line of NAS?

We needed a server solution for both files and applications, I was about to pull the trigger on a Dell T430 for a few grand when someone mentioned to me that i should be even better off with a QNAP device for a fraction  of the cost.

Any insight?

Not specifically familiar.

I was looking into it myself. Though I am not sure what you mean by "for ... applications". A NAS is an excellent idea for file storage (especially if you have some form of RAID that might keep your data more reliably available).

A full blown server might do a lot more than just a NAS, such as run a database (which requires actual processing power, not only storage), and various daemons and/or server applications.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
