which part is not the norm?
I had that by Hertz a couple of times
I don't rent from Hertz in Israel but it's not the standard by other companies.

Well in my experience when booking online, I asked at the desk if they could not charge me for shabbos so they subtracted the shabbosim.
My experience was with hertz at Ben gurion I did it a couple of times it always worked
The only time it didn't work was when I prepaid they said that they can't refund me for that.
The rep is doing you a solid.
They don't need to do that.

Did I miss anything?
Are taxes/fees at the airport much more than a local pickup?
Any concerns about coverage limits on CDW/TP?
I have Ink Business Preferred, AA platinum select (world Elite), and AA CitiBusiness Select World Elite. Are any of these better than another?  Thanks.
especially if you get a higher end car, but not just, make sure that the Israeli book value is less than the CCs coverage limit. (some ccs limit to $60k... which is likely not enough if you total one of the newer minivans or many electric cars)

Where would you find that Israel BV?
Anyone have a comparison of which cards provide CDW coverage above the standard $60K USD?

The Ink Business card covers $60K USD, I was assuming that's sufficient to cover the BV on the minivan. (in part by virtue of that fact that the car rental co' would presumably be exposing themselves to the credit-risk on any deficiency between the cost of the car and the 60K in coverage, if they are counting on collecting from a foreign tourist!)

A new minvan in israel is likely over $100K.
You can do a quick search on yad2 to get an idea.
There's an equivalent to Kelly blue book, it's called yitzchak something... I think, maybe @tavster or @LongTimeLurker have a better idea

They can likely charge your cc over your credit limit.
If it's a big enough debt, they can get an order blocking your exit from the country.... even on a future visit.

Is this a hunch or have you verified this?
Part of the the prices are so high because of the 83% sales tax on vehicles. Moreover, foreign visitors are excluded from some of those (e.g. 18% VAT)

The only card, I'm seeing that appears to have more than $60,000 USD of coverage is Chase Sapphire Reserve (with $75,000).

Are there others?

About which part are you asking if it is a hunch?

About the price of the cars - verified
They can likely charge a CC over limit - hunch (obviously not 40k on a card with a 1k limit, but maybe 30k on a card with a 25k limit?)
Block exit from IL over large debts - verified

The fact that a foreigner has vat suspended on his purchases is irrelevant. You aren't personally buying the replacement car if you total the rental car, and even if you did, you would be liable for almost the full sum of taxes anyway when you transfer title to the rental car co... and you wouldn't be exempt in this case regardless, as a car bought with tax exemptions can only be driven by the purchaser and their spouse.

In any event, all these calculations are only relevant if you severely damage or total the car. Decide what your level of risk aversion is, and make your decision. I only brought it up bec you asked if there was anything you were missing.

Amex I believe covers up to $75k.

In any event, all these calculations are only relevant if you severely damage or total the car.

Chase won't cover at all if the value of the car is above $75k, regardless of the amount of damage.

I would think that they wouldn't bother looking up the local book value of a standard car for a small claim, but hey, it's a risk

Chase guide to benefits (Business Preferred Ink) excludes cars with MSRP above $125,000. (It may vary by card).

Separately, it turns out the cost of getting CDW/Theft on my minivan reservation is only $5/day, above liability-alone. (The downside with this vs CC coverage, is that there is a small deductible).

Thanks. That said, my hunch would be is that it would be a bad business decision (reputationally) to go after a customer like that, I.e. once they get their $60K, they would probably write the rest off, because (1) its a relatively rare occurrence and (2) being perceived as very aggressive against their customers would scare away future customers.

Why you think Israeli companies care about reputation is beyond me.
