General Q: Is there any cons of booking a United flight with Aeroplan points vs. United points?

Change/cancellation policy.

Please clarify, I had good experiences with Aeroplan when I needed to make a change. They charged $75 or so.. cant remember exactly.. I think as long as it wasnt within 21 days of the flight it was ok

Can't cncel for free within 24 hours of booking. Change is $75 but you can't cancel within 21 days.

One of the major benefits when booking with United is 1) bookable one leg. 2) changing dates with no fee. 3) no fuel surcharge. If I book with Aeroplan points, do I still have those benefits?

You can change to outside the 21 day window, then cancel.

You can book OW's with Aeroplan as long as one leg touches North America.
Some airlines don't have YQ.
Unless you have status with UA, date changes are not free.
