I'm not quite sure what you're saying. I know you can search for posts by specific user, and that can even be done to search within specified boards, on the search page. But how can that be done within the thread?

Open that thread. Then put that username in the "search" on top right. Depending on how many times he posted in that thread you should have quite a few results. You could even add on a word he posted together. (If you remember the post)

Not sure the best place to post this, but need 6 tickets for a flight from HNL to LIH. Ticket cost is $124 on Hawaiian airlines. I have 300K AMEX MR points and 200K AA miles. AA is showing availability for the same flights for 7500 miles/ ticket. Question is should I use the AMEX points (and swap my pfd airline to Hawaiian) and get 2 cents/ dollar for MR or use the AA miles for an effective 2 cents. Adding to question - i know that if i sign up for the Hawaiian miles plan, I can get $10 off each checked bag if I book with AMEX vs on a mileage ticket. Any help would be appreciated.
