Yes, I was expecting that but really hoping not. But Bidenīs top doctor said it would be forever, so weīll see what happens.

The FAA announced they will be in contact with the CDC to see what criteria are needed to remove the mandate. It upsets me that the approach theyīre taking is that itīs normal to wear masks, and if we donīt want to, then we need to come up with a reason. Now, they extended a mandate that they have no reason for.

Actually, that is a terrible idea, especially because there is no due process. With a rule like that, families can be put on the do not fly list for not being able to keep the mask on their two-year-old. People would not be able to fly, because their mask was off between each cheerio they ate. Or, if you like this example better, a black person will be put on the do not fly list because another black person wasnīt wearing a mask, and the flight attendant racially categorizes the whole flight.

If there is a system, in which every single case is reviewed (Who exactly broke the rules? Was the FA discriminating? Did he have health issues? Did he comply when asked? Etc.), people know that they are being put on the list (and can appeal it), and the rules are fixed to actually make sense (only 6+ year olds have to wear masks, not required when eating or drinking, etc.), then maybe you can start suggesting that.

I assume you mean not talking. I understand you mean people who cause fights, and I am pointing out that if it were to become a thing to put people on a DNF list for mask violations, people may very likely get put on the list for minor, or uncontrolled infractions. Imagine halfway between a flight, an FA asks a parent to mask his two-year-old, and the parent cannot comply because itīs impossible, and it starts a fight. And the child (maybe even the parent) is put on the list...

If there is no due process then this makes no difference. There are plenty who were put on airline DNF over these minor infractions. My daughter was on a flight where the FA openly said she would do that over masking.

If the parents are trying to comply I don't see how a fight would start. It is the attitude of the parents.

FWIW just saw a clip from Shloimy Zionce saying he’s on a flight that the FA announced that masks are optional.
 I assume that was an international flight, but I wonder if that means it’ll happen here too sooner than later.

The FA didn't specify that, but that was in response to a distinction between fights and minor infractions not one about children.

The FA are not looking for trouble. I have been on a ton of flights over the years. They just want to do their jobs and go home. I just want to get where I am going without some idiot that thinks the rules don't pertain to him/her.

That is true for the vast majority of flights,but there have been so many reported cases where the FA was over zealous. It speaks volumes that @Dan is concerned about bringing his children on long flights under these rules.

Over zealous or just enforcing the rules. I have flown many times during the pandemic. I have yet to see one of these over zealous FA. On every single flight I have seen someone sitting around me flaunting the rules. FA have to put up with this on every flight.

From the way my daughter described hers it was overzealous going around warning everyone for not making between birds and threatening that with a next time they would be reported. There are tons of repress like this. Many of them are missing how the passenger acted like a jewel about it but not anywhere close to all.

Maybe but it isn't always practical and for someone to end up on a DNF over that is ridiculous.

For the situation to escalate to that point (DNF), 99 out 100 it will not be the FA.

Yes but what about the 1. The FAs can also use better training in descalating situations which would solve so many of the issues.

Look, it is hard with young kids and even older ones. We all get that.
If you know you are going to have a problem with your kids, then consider not flying.
