Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf
Grand Canyon National Park Lodges

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:
  • Skywalk
  • Bearizona Wildlife Park - Williams, AZ

Page AZ
Lake Powell (popular lake for boating, with kayak, motor boat, pontoon boat, houseboat rentals, Jetski, boat tours, and swimming). Lake and surrounding canyon walls are uniquely scenic together (it's actually a huge artificial reservoir surrounded by canyon walls, resulting from the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam

Horseshoe bend (popular scenic overlook of a 180 degree bend in the Colorado river)

thanks for all the replies, i guess i will stay overnight to see either sunrise or sunset in GC, would you suggest i come from scottsdale to sedona spend half day there going around and sleeping there and then continuing in the moring to GC, or is it better to stay in sedona on way back? also for the big question, our youngest is 10, does it pay to go to bryce or zion if i am already in GC area, or is it too much driving? [we are paying regardless for the house in scottsdale for he 2 weeks]

Not sure what to tell you about your house in Scottsdale, but generally speaking it is totally worth going to Zion/Bryce once you're there. Though if you think you'll make it back to the region soon (they're closer to Vegas), then maybe you'll want to save it for then.

my question was how to best structure the trip, it seems bryce is very far, should i do the following, if i am going mostly for the sights, and not much for the hikes, as my family arent into big hikes, or does anyone have better ideas.
leave Scottsdale  10am to sedona do jeep tours, and then head to GC catch sunset, sleep over in GC, next morning, drive to horseshoe bend and antelope canyon, then head back to scottsdale?

I live in Scottsdale. What can I say, it’s really really hot. You have to be very careful. 15 ladies on a tour were rescued from a hike the other day right near me. You really need to plan indoor activities during the day, drink tons of water when you are outside, and go in the pool a lot. For people who aren’t planning to take precautions or want to be able to tour freely outdoors, it’s really not the right place/time for the vacation here.

Its not that bad, just drink lots of water you’ll be fine.

Maryland & 7th St (La Bella Pizza) is kind of the epicenter. Most people live in the rectangle bordered by 12th St, Bethany Home on the South, 7th Ave and Glendale on the North. Lubavitch is in a different area, right off of Glendale but east of the 51. I’d say the most popular street for non Lubavitch is Ocotillo.

Got it thank you. I see 2 Airbnb just east of 12th is that still solid? Some areas in cities it's very Jewish on 1 side but on the other side of a street there are no jews at all.

Totally fine in terms of safety. The “borders” here are mostly because it’s HOT. So people don’t want to live very far from the shuls at all.

Got it. There are a few there but you’d do better west of 12th.

Are you familiar with Scottsdale? Is there a certain area there that is more Jewish and in general where is the community bigger?

Yep, I live in Scottsdale! There are two areas near Ahavas Torah and Young Israel. North of Thunderbird, the area bordered by 68th, Hearn, 71st and Thunderbird. There are religious families distributed fairly evenly through that area. There is also the plaza apartment/condo complex north of Hearn with about 10 religious young couples and families.

South of Thunderbird, the area bordered by 64th, Thunderbird, Scottsdale Rd and Sweetwater. Pershing rd is kind of the center/most popular in that area.
