Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf
Grand Canyon National Park Lodges

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:
  • Skywalk
  • Bearizona Wildlife Park - Williams, AZ

Page AZ
Lake Powell (popular lake for boating, with kayak, motor boat, pontoon boat, houseboat rentals, Jetski, boat tours, and swimming). Lake and surrounding canyon walls are uniquely scenic together (it's actually a huge artificial reservoir surrounded by canyon walls, resulting from the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam
Carl Hayden Visitor Center at the Glen Canyon Dam (Free museum about the Glen Canyon Dam)
Horseshoe bend (popular scenic overlook of a 180 degree bend in the Colorado river)
Antelope Canyon (beautiful slot canyons with stunning photography opportunity, controlled by Native Americans with entrance fees and guided tour, advance reservations are needed. Fees were recently increased to $60-$100/pp)

going to be arriving in phoenix tonite around 7/8pm. Is there any store where i can buy chalav yisroel milk at that hr?
Unfortunately not. Imperial market closes at 5 or 6. Safeway on 7th and Glendale has cheese but not milk. If you want to message me when you get here with your location and phone number, I can post in a Phoenix WhatsApp to see if anyone has an extra.

Hi im hoping someone can help
We are in scottsdale right now. Flying out of pheonix  late tonight. Really wanted to go to sedona before we leave but we put it off yesterday becuase of the storm forecast. Does it make sense to go today and is there any hiking or perhaps horse back riding we can do there with the weather forecast today? (Moderate to easy hikes. )

90% chance of snow there today… the weather here is so strange in that it can be sunny in Phoenix and a blizzard in Sedona, literally. I would skip it. I’m sorry! Another reason is that they often close the highways here between Phoenix and Sedona in case of snow. (Diff than the east coast where the highway is always open and it can just be dangerous driving. Here and in CA they just close it.)

Thanks for the quick reply!! Really appreciate.
I don't see 90% chance of snow till after 6pm but 30 to 50% throughout the day. I didn't realize about roads closing.
The girl at trader Joe's was recommending we.still go lol.
And I'm bummed to miss it. But if it isn't realistic then that's that.
Is there something else especially nice (nature) you would recommend otherwise?
We hiked McDowell mountain. Went to hole in the rock. Hiked black mountain trail in cave creek AZ and experienced that general area.

Happy to help - I just double checked the Arizona department of transportation Twitter, and it says don’t travel and they are already closing highways. I found it very jarring when I moved here, like on the East Coast if it’s drizzling in New York, then maybe there’s some flurries in Boston. But here it could be like night and day, even with cities that close together.

Outdoor activities near here -
Lost dog wash hike in Scottsdale - funny name but beautiful hike
The Boulders hike just north of Scottsdale on the way to Cave Creek. (Cave Creek is cute and touristy - like some desert/southwest themed stores.)
Lake Overlook trail - near Fountain Hills which is just gorgeous - amazing views
Desert Botanical gardens - not a hike but beautiful unique plants
Gardens at the Phoenician Hotel
Japanese Friendship garden

Best kept secret in phoenix is Manhattan pizza and subs. Right near the Jewish area, tiny mom and pop place. But food is solid and super fresh

Also Fata Morgana is solid (very close to Kitchen 18 in Scottsdale)
+1.  To the point that every time I'm in town there I go straight there and don't even bother with the other eateries (obviously excl Shabbos food).

To clarify, was referring specifically to Manhattan P.
