Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf
Grand Canyon National Park Lodges

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:
  • Skywalk
  • Bearizona Wildlife Park - Williams, AZ

Lake Powell (popular lake for boating, with kayak, motor boat, pontoon boat, houseboat rentals, Jetski, boat tours, and swimming). Lake and surrounding canyon walls are uniquely scenic together (it's actually a huge artificial reservoir surrounded by canyon walls, resulting from the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam

Snowing in Tucson and North Scottsdale. Wild.
Drive from Tucson to Scottsdale tonight was just brutal.
Glad you’re ok! I saw a video on Twitter of snow in Cave Creek. I’m headed there this morning. They really don’t have enough snowplows or even road salt here for anything like this. A friend of mine last night said she had to pull over.

I'm planning a last-minute trip to PHX for 2 nights next week. Any recommendations for cheaper or lower points hotels that are still nice? Skimming through here, I mostly see The Phoenician and Hyatt Regency which are a bit out of budget.

Also, has anyone been to the Musical Instrument Museum? Is it worth squeezing into such a short trip (along with outdoor activities)? What activity can't be missed?

I asked some friends and they said it’s good for older kids and adults but not younger kids and toddlers.

Honestly, though, the next few weeks are going to be the best weather of the year here. It’s just gorgeous right now. Warm but not too hot during the day, cool but not cold at night. I wouldn’t really plan too many indoor activities.

Thank you! So what would you say is the priority from this list?
-Sedona Pink Jeep (or another recommended jeep tour)
-Lake Pleasant
-Canyon Lake
-Lost Dog Wash
-Fountain Hills

Really depends on how far you want to drive. Sedona is about two hours from Phoenix/Scottsdale. Everybody I know who does the jeep tour absolutely loves it. Another consideration is that they are expecting some rain there next week. It’s funny that it could be gorgeous in Scottsdale and raining in Sedona, but that’s what it’s like here. So you might want to call the Jeep company to make sure they are open before you get in the car for the drive.

Lake Pleasant and Canyon Lake are also a little bit of a drive but beautiful.

If you want to stay more local, then Lost Dog Wash and Fountain Hills are a nice option. Neither is really a whole day activity - more like a morning or afternoon.

Hyatt Mission tempe palms isn't fancy and could use a renovation, but they take anniversary certs and even bought us Globalist C"Y breakfast from Imperial Market!

It doesn't look like it's bookable with points, though.

The only Sefardi shuls here are Bucharian. There are some sefardim at the other shuls though.
The main frum area in Phoenix, which has a Bucharian shul and a few Ashkenazi shuls, is near the intersection of 7th St and Glendale.

There is another Bucharian shul near the intersection of 15th Ave and Grovers Ave. This is primarily a Bucharian area.

Ahavas Torah in Scottsdale does have some Israeli families but it’s an Ashkenazi shul.

The one near 7th and Glendale is the most religious. (Not the Rav, they both are, but the people who go there).  Enter zip code 85020 then use the map feature to navigate. The best is 7th st area between Glendale and Maryland. Ocotillo is probably the most frum st.

Meat yes. Matzoh - they have some, but most people here do a group
order from Lakewood. If you message me as it gets closer I can give you the info on how to be included in the order.
