Amazon has a Lightning Deal on now for the Victorinox 40520 Fibrox 8" Chef's Knife.  This is a great, light, inexpensive kitchen knife that is dishwasher safe.  I have 2 of these, and we have long ago given up on our expensive kitchen knives.  This knife is light, easy to sharpen, and inexpensive enough to have 2!
